Weed in Maastricht
Maastricht is one of the most historic and picturesque cities in the Netherlands. It’s impossible to enjoy this wonderful city without a little weed. Despite the Netherlands’ tolerance for marijuana, getting weed in Maastricht can be difficult if you are not a resident.
Cannabis law in the Netherlands
The Netherlands is known for having some of the most liberal cannabis regulations in the world. Having said that, it is still not legal, only tolerated. Different towns are also free to implement their own cannabis rules, which is why anyone over the age of 18 can buy marijuana from a coffee shop.
However, this is not the situation in Maastricht. A cannabis pass is required to enter a coffeeshop and purchase marijuana in Maastricht (wietpas in Dutch). This means that only persons who are legally registered as residents of the municipality are allowed to enter the coffee shops and buy cannabis. Weed, hash, pre-rolled joints, and edibles are all sold at Maastricht’s coffee shops, just like they are in Amsterdam.
The purpose of the weed ban is to prevent people from Germany and Belgium, both of which are near to Maastricht, from purchasing cannabis and transporting it back to their home countries.
This means that if you don’t live in Maastricht, you won’t be able to buy marijuana lawfully. Dealing on the street is prohibited and can get you in hot water. Selling, on the other hand, is a more serious violation. If you are successful in obtaining marijuana, you should avoid smoking in crowded areas. The most popular outside smoking spots are in the park or along the Maas river.
How to get weed in Maastricht
Because Maastricht has coffee shops, the best cannabis to get is from the businesses. You won’t be allowed to enter without a weed pass, but you may always ask someone. Many young individuals in Maastricht would be happy to buy some for you if you merely asked. Another option is to purchase marijuana from a drug dealer on the street. They frequently have lower-quality marijuana or simply sell you what they got at a greater price in a coffee shop. It is, however, illegal to sell marijuana on the street, and vendors cannot be trusted. Late at night, you can typically spot them along the bridges. They’re mainly Middle Eastern, and if you go past them, they’ll say “wiet.”
